The Floating Walnut Drafting Table was conceived and built in 2025 as Design 100 Project piece D100P-006. Created at Henscratch Studio North in Lincoln, Massachusetts, the table was designed as a dedicated working instrument for the ongoing development of new Design 100 Project concepts and drawings. Crafted entirely from walnut, the piece explores the possibility of furniture construction using wooden mechanical systems in place of conventional metal hardware. Handcrafted wooden nuts, bolts, screws, pivots, and locking mechanisms are integrated throughout the structure, serving both functional and aesthetic roles. The drafting surface incorporates a tilting work plane, allowing one half of the tabletop to be adjusted for drawing and design work. Beneath the work surface, a suspended storage compartment provides organized space for sketches, plans, and reference materials, secured through custom wooden screw mechanisms.
