The Design 100 Project is a long-term commitment to create one hundred one-of-a-kind works of fine furniture and wood art over the next decade. Each piece is designed and handcrafted by Frank and Dugan Maddux, the husband-and-wife makers behind Henscratch Studios, and is permanently documented on the Base Network blockchain to establish its provenance.
The project began as Frank approached retirement from Fresenius Medical Care, creating an opportunity to deepen a lifelong commitment to woodworking and to focus with intention on a defined body of work.
Through this project, Henscratch Studios bridges traditional craftsmanship with modern technology. Every work originates in our studio and carries a verified record of its creation, maker, and ownership—preserving its story as it passes from us to collectors and beyond.
Rather than being offered for sale, these works are gifted to collectors, who become stewards of the work—free to live with it, or to pass it forward through gift or sale—while its history remains permanently and transparently preserved.
Our mission is to honor the handmade object, celebrate the full arc of its creation, and ensure that its story endures with clarity and integrity for generations.
The Design 100 Project pairs each handmade work with a simple digital token that serves as its record of authenticity and provenance. This guide offers a calm, straightforward path for receiving the piece for your stewardship. Just a few clear steps that help connect the physical work in your hands with its digital record. Our hope is that this feels natural and grounded like the studio itself, and that you feel supported as the new steward of a Design 100 Project work.
