#2 The Deconstructed Bookshelf

The Deconstructed Bookshelf is the second work in the Design 100 Project, a curated series exploring the intersection of functional furniture and conceptual design. Created in 2024 by Henscratch Woodworks of Henscratch Studios, this piece reflects an ongoing study of structure, negative space, and modular balance. The design reimagines the traditional bookshelf as a fragmented, architectural form—where storage becomes both utility and visual composition. Each compartment functions independently while contributing to a cohesive asymmetrical geometry, emphasizing the tension between order and deconstruction. The Red Grandis wood is accented by walnut dowels which bind the connections between individual boxes. Walnut orbs act as hangers to support the weight of the books, and the useful surfaces are both inside and outside the boxes themselves. As part of a limited 1 of 1 edition, this work is individually documented, serialized, and preserved within the Design 100 archive. Its metadata and associated digital record establish authenticity, authorship, and placement within the broader collection.
