At Henscratch Studio, each piece begins with a story — wood gathered from our own land, shaped by hand, and finished with intention. The Hemlock Blanket Chest, made from trees felled in our Lincoln, Massachusetts yard, embodies that spirit. Its broad dovetails, hand cut by Frank Maddux, anchor the chest in the tradition of enduring joinery, while the hand‑routed and epoxy‑filled butterflies and woodland creatures, created by Dugan Maddux, bring a touch of color and life to the surface. This collaboration between material and imagination reflects our studio’s approach: honoring the grain, celebrating the handmade, and letting each design carry the marks of both craft and place. Now part of the collection of Emma and Chris Kozlowski, the chest stands as a testament to the way woodwork can hold memory — of the land, the maker, and the moment of creation.
